Unlike the formula series of races and cars, enclosed wheel racing involves vehicles that have- you guessed it-enclosed wheels, as well as bodywork. Essentially, these races involve vehicles that look more similar to the cars we are used to seeing on the streets every day.
- Sports Car Racing
This involves a wide variety of cars and races, as it is a relatively all-encompassing term. Sports car races largely differ from region to region and country to country. This type of racing is popular namely in Europe and North America. The term ‘Sports Car’ can refer to the racing of luxury vehicles or, smaller, but powerful vehicles. The appearance varies as does the power, speed and construction of the vehicles that fall into this category. The races vary from on to off road and this type of race is what we often think of or picture when we think of motorsport or racing.
- Stock car racing
NASCAR is the driving force (no pun intended) behind these races. The speedway track is most often the location of choice for stock car racing. These races date back to 1947 and production cars were the original stock cars, which are now more purpose-built, however, keep some of their original appearances. Daytona 500 is the most well-known stock car race, takes place in the United States and marks the opening of the season for this exciting sports and its loyal fans, followers and spectators.
- Touring Car Race
Closed streets, tracks and longer laps are taken on by modified and glorified streetcars in touring races. These are popular with more underground racing, however, there are many regulated touring car races worldwide.
- Other Races
Motorsport also includes a variety of motorcycle races as well as a plethora of other car racing classes. Read on to find out more.
